600 BLOCK OF NORTHEAST 20TH LANEBOYNTON BEACH

With the facts as we know them at this time, Boynton Beach Police responded to a report of a domestic dispute this morning at around 10:45 a.m. near the 600 block of Northeast 20th Lane in Boynton Beach. Upon arrival, BBPD officers encountered one of the individuals involved in the dispute at Intracoastal Park armed with a reported machete. During the encounter the officers involved discharged their firearms, striking the individual. Officers immediately began performing life-saving measures. The Boynton Beach Fire Rescue Department transported the individual to a local hospital, where he later died. It is the current policy of the Boynton Beach Police Department to request the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to investigate all officer involved shootings and in-custody deaths. The investigation is active. Northbound Federal Highway from Harvey E. Oyer Park to Gateway Boulevard was closed due to the incident and is now reopen. BBPD will provide an update once available. The media staging area is located at 2235 North Federal Highway in Boynton Beach.
