Four large Metronet fiber-optic cables attached to a utility pole approximately 20 feet above the ground were cut, causing a large-scale phone and internet outage that forced 16 Des Moines schools to delay classes two hours. Damage estimated at well over $100,000. Des Moines police investigating as an act of vandalism; no suspect identified.
