Man Charged Following Bomb Squad Response on East 38th Street

Erie police charged a 61-year-old man with simple assault, possessing an instrument of crime and disorderly conduct after he was seen waving a gun outside Pano's Restaurant around 8:15 a.m.; he was then stopped in the 1800 block of East 38th Street, where a suspicious item in his vehicle prompted a bomb squad response and the precautionary evacuation of JoAnna Connell Elementary School. No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.
